30th August 2012
We went to our house this afternoon to do a bit of DIY. Sarah got stuck in to wallpapering and I decided to hack off the back side of the bathroom wall, get rid of all the lath and plater in that section of the hallway. It was much easier to do this not worrying about mess, it piled up on the good carpet but then it was easy to shovel the mess away.
Yesterday the guys started on the underpinning of the house. The cut the concrete and started to knock down the outside toilet. By this afternoon the hole was dug and the area was ready to be filled with concrete. We will see what happens tomorrow when they get stuck back in.

Day 2 of renovations
Saturday 25th August
Day 2
Today we got stuck in again. We got tot he house at around 10, sorted the water after causing a minor flood in the kitchen area. The water bubbled through a pipe that was not stopped off and resulted in water dripping through the light fitting in the kitchen downstairs.
The wall got taken out in the bathroom as well as most of the cupboard. We saved the cupboard doors for a later date. All this removing has revealed how shoddy a job was done last time the makeover was completed. The cupboard, for example, was built up over the original cupboard and covered the vertical part of the sash window in the bathroom. So now with the wall down it was up to removing all the tiles from the walls. Two of the walls are solid so are proving a bit more difficult to remove the tiles from. I ended up hammering the crowbar down behind them and levering the tiles off. More often than not this resulted in the tiles breaking apart. I ended up getting most of the tiles off with help from Mum and Dad. Sarah spent most of the day peeling the wallpaper off the walls.
Outside mum had a go at the garden bed that runs along the front and side of the house. A hard evenings graft and the result speaks for itself. It was on my list of things to do, but the list seems to be getting quite long. Mum did a fantastic effort and I think was very proud of the result of her afternoons work.
After a day of scraping the paper off downstairs, Sarah attacked the walls upstairs with the steamer and scraper. No match for the skill and strength of that team, the paper didn't stand a chance.
We took a little time off after lunch to have a quick look at the tile shops that run along Newport road. Stopping in tops tiles Sarah spotted a nice tile in the front of the shop that may go well in the bathroom, probably in the shower area. We will see.

Day 1 of renovations
24th August 2012
Day 1
Today we got into the house and started work. Peter got to the house before us as started off fixing the leaking tap in the kitchen. After pulling up the laminate flooring in d/s room 2 Dave began pulling up a couple of floorboards to check out the condition of the floor beams. He gave them the OK in the second room and also the front room.
With the tap fixed we set out pulling all the laminate flooring up. We eventually got it up in all the rooms, both upstairs and downstairs. and also the kitchen.
We also started to knock through the bathrooms, pulled out the sinks, bath, toilet cistern and took off most of the tiles from the back bathroom. One long day and a load of work from everyone who helped.

Sarah and I
I wonder what we will get up to tomorrow?

House?
This may now be snowballing a bit. Have gone from slower than a snail, to now trying to catch up. I may have to hire a moving van next week... Stay tuned.
Putt putt at the Celtic manor.
When Sarah said her neices were coming down for the weekend I wasn't to chuffed. There goes my relaxing, do nothing, let my brain go to mush of a weekend. However instead I had a great time!
We meet up at Annas house for a cup of tea, and then the plan was to head of to the Couldra for a Sunday lunch with Maris. Well we ended up having the Sunday lunch, playing adventure golf (its what they call putt putt over here) and then heading back to Sarah's sisters Houser for a relaxing time both watching the Olympics and also playing the Olympics on the Wii. A nice weekend, and we also got another silverand a bronze in the pool! Go the Olympics!
