Camping in Bradford on Avon

So Sarah and I packed up the van for a jam packed weekend of fun!

After struggling the bikes into the back of the van we headed off to the campsite for the night. Arriving at around half eight we followed the instructions from the owners to "just park straight ahead anywhere on the grass". A quick set up, well everything is already in the van, and we jumped onto the local road on our bikes for a short trip to the local pub. Only one drink as there was not that much going on, only one farmers dog, so we went back to the campsite to relax and unwind.

Saturday came and there was a break in the weather, only sunshine and showers forecast, so our plan for riding our bikes from Bradford on Avon to bath was on. A nice flat canal side ride was well worth it. We passed many crazy canalers (people that live in the canal network) and their amazing boats, including a massive cruise ship lifeboat that actually didn't seem to far out of whack. The ride from Bradford to Bath was really flat as there was no locks, but we did go over a few aqueducts, which were quite amazing. Such engineering for something that was built over a hundred years ago. A bridge of water over a river, made only of stone, but it didn't leak at all.

Bath was busy as usual, but we did spend some time getting away from the crowds hanging around the baths, a spent a little time walking along the back streets and sticking our noses into the local shops.

The trip back along the canal was a bit better as there was not as many people out and about. We did have to take shelter a couple of times under some trees when the showers caught up with us. The showers did make our bikes a bit muddy as the precipitation had done a bit more than dampen the dust. Sarah and I spent most of the return leg thinking that we were going slightly down hill, till I realised that we were heading inland therefore slightly up hill. Not bothered, neither could the rain dampen our mood as the clicks ticked over, and quicker than we thought, we were back in Bradford on Avon. Steve was still waiting for us in the long stay car park, so we jumped in and headed home. What a day, only of to Thorpe park tomorrow.
